HRSC and the ESA Mission Mars Express
The goal of the Mars Express Mission is the exploration of the atmoshpere, surface and subsurface of Mars. On board the Mars Express orbiter is the HRSC/SRC Camera Experiment. It was developed under supervision of Prof. Dr. Gerhard Neukum and will map the Martian surface in full colour, in three dimensions and at high resolution. Since 25 December 2003, Mars Express is orbiting the red planet and is continuously transmitting data.
HRSC Press ReleasesThe spectacular views of the Martian surface are prepared here at the Department of Remote Sensing of the Earth and the Planets at the FU Berlin. The results are high resolution colour images, anaglyphs (stereo images), three dimensional landscapes and virtual flights over the planet’s surface. The Press Archive offers a thematic overview of all published orbits and images. |

The raw data is processed in several steps at the German Aerospace Center (DLR). The final data is the foundation for scientific research of the international HRSC Team as well as the press releases. The press releases are published simultaneously on our webpage, the webpage of ESA and those of the DLR. |
Online access of HRSC data
Since 14 March 2007 HRSC image data can be viewed and accessed online. The online interface HRSCview is a cooperation of the Department of Planetary Sciences and Remote Sensing at the Institute of Geosciences at Freie Universität Berlin and the DLR Institute for Planetary Research at German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Berlin-Adlershof.

The Mars Express Spacecraft
Seven scientific experiments are operating on board the Mars Express spacecraft. Since the successful deployment of the last MARSIS radar antenna on 22 June 2005, all seven instruments are operational. An overview of all instruments is available here.
